GBCSA 5 STAR RATING
Cape Town's tallest building, Portside, achieved a 5 Green Star SA Office Design rating certification from the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA). Portside, a project of the De Leeuw Group, successfully achieved a "5 Star Office v1 As Built" certification and 67 points (60 points being the 5 Star threshold) in the category. It is the first high rise building to achieve Green Star certification in South Africa.
According to the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA), a green building is one that is energy efficient, resource efficient and environmentally responsible. It incorporates construction, design and operational practices that reduce or eliminate the negative impact of development on the environment.
"The fact that the tallest building in Cape Town has pursued and achieved a premium five-star rating, creating a lasting landmark in an emerging financial district in Cape Town's CBD, is very encouraging. This rating is a commendable achievement and we congratulate FNB on achieving this significant accolade," says Brian Wilkinson, CEO GBCSA.
De Leeuw is very proud to be part of the team that made this happen.
